Nationwide Platforms is benefiting from lower operating costs thanks to choosing Scania vehicles for its fleet.

Furthermore, the Loxam group member has identified better reliability and DVS compliance as reasons for its choice.

Nationwide Platforms is the UK’s largest provider of powered access equipment.

Therefore, it has made a big investment of 69 Scania vehicles.

Specifically, it has taken delivery of 19 rigids and 50 tractor units.

The trucks were supplied by West Bromwich-based Scania dealer, Keltruck.

In addition, these are the first Scania vehicles to be taken by the company.

Also, an additional 48 Scania trucks are now on order for delivery later this year.

“There were primarily three key factors behind our decision to move to Scania,” said James Clarke, Nationwide Platform’s head of transport.

“The factors are proven low total cost of operation, excellent reliability and the P-series cab’s 3-star Direct Vision Standard (DVS) rating.

Importantly, that rating is achieved when equipped with Scania’s City Safe window.

Continuing, Clarke said the lower operating costs were already evident.

“Although it is early days, we are already seeing the fuel saving benefits Scania delivers,” he said.

“And, when you do need assistance, Scania has an excellent UK service network.

“That support is essential for us as these vehicles will be based around our depots nationwide.”

Meanwhile, the DVS rating was important because London is “a key area of operation” for Nationwide Platforms.

The rigids selected by Nationwide Platforms are all P 410 B8x2*2 rear-steers.

In addition, they are all equipped with flat bodies with beaver tails and winches.

Going forward, all new trucks will be fitted with Sterling Access Platform bodies.

The tractor units are all Scania P 450 A6x2NAs with Highline cabs.

Finally, these cabs feature factory-fitted catwalks and electronic handbrakes.
