Dewsbury-based Brocklehurst Transport Ltd has taken delivery of a Renault Trucks T480 High Turbo Compound 6×2 tractor unit, the first Renault truck to be added to its 28-strong fleet.
Supplied by JDS Truck and Van on a 150,000kms per year, 5-year repair and maintenance contract, the T480 High is equipped with Renault Trucks’ latest DE13 TC engine for optimum performance, featuring Turbo Compound technology.
Russell Pickup, Fleet and Compliance Manager, Brocklehurst Transport, says: “For us, fuel efficiency is the key consideration for selecting a new vehicle and we were keen to test Renault Trucks’ Turbo Compound. Although the initial purchase price was above a competitor’s model, following a successful trial we were impressed with the fuel returns and could see the bigger picture for longer-term cost savings.”
The T480 High pulls curtainsider trailers on general haulage and supermarket distribution on national runs where the engine’s Turbo Compound technology comes into its own for optimised fuel efficiency and performance.
For greater fuel savings, Renault Trucks’ Smart Torque Control solution maximises the time spent in the zone with the best engine efficiency to deliver the required torque when needed. Additionally, the truck benefits from Optivision Map-Based gear shift strategy for FUEL ECO, which anticipates topography and ECO Cruise control with Optiroll, for further control of fuel consumption.
The cab is finished in Brocklehurst Transport’s distinctive red livery and supplied with Renault Trucks’ “Business Edition” pack, including a fully painted bumper, fixed roof air deflector, and side deflectors. Inside, the spacious cab is equipped for comfort with Roadpad+ infotainment system, electronic comfort air conditioning and lighting, microwave and Renault Trucks’ memory foam mattress topper.
Russell says: “Driver confidence in the new T480 High was crucial and buy-in to the new vehicle has been swift. It has been extremely well received by the driver, who is out 3-4 nights a week, it ticks all the boxes and he’s happy with the in-cab convenience and comfort.”
Recommendations from local operators also played a part in the new vehicle selection, as Russell explains: “We know local hauliers running Renault trucks, people who we trust, and their feedback has been positive.”
“JDS in Morley, Leeds, is looking after the vehicle, and we have set up a service plan with them. They are based in a super-convenient location, and I’ve already had good reports from colleagues on their responsiveness and professionalism. We look forward to working in partnership with them going forwards.”
