Advanced safety technologies protecting drivers and vulnerable road users are now available to order on Mercedes-Benz trucks.
The company has announced that the systems will go into production in June 2021.
Therefore, anyone who orders a new Actros or Arocs can now specify the new options.
Mercedes-Benz has debuted many advanced safety technologies for its trucks in the past.
Therefore, it continues to push innovation with Active Sideguard Assist and Active Drive Assist 2.
Sideguard Assist has been on the market since 2016 and is available on the Actros, Arocs and Econic.
It warns the driver of pedestrians or cyclists that are on the co-driver’s side of the vehicle.
However, the system will now be replaced on Actros and Arocs models by Active Sideguard Assist.
The new technology still warns of any dangers, but it also includes an automated braking element.
As a result, if there is a potential accident, the system can bring the vehicle to a complete stop.
Initially there are warning sounds to alert the driver, but if these are ignored, the braking kicks in.
Active Sideguard Assist works at turning speeds of up to 20km/h.
Meanwhile, Active Drive Assist – which automatically brakes if the trucks gets too close to one in front – has been upgraded.
Active Drive Assist 2 initiates an emergency stop if it detects the driver hasn’t been actively involved in driving for a period of time.
Specifically, the system will take over if there is no response to the usual in cab alerts.
If there is no response after 60 seconds, the system will take over a safely bring the truck to a standstill.
Truck doors are automatically unlocked so that paramedics can treat the driver if necessary.
