As well as battery technology, there were diesel developments shown by Mercedes-Benz at IAA Transportation 2022.
The German manufacturer was keen to show that current powertrains had a big role to play.
However, it made sure that there was a heavy emphasis on fuel efficiency and highlighted the need to be green.
For example, the third generation of the 12.8-litre OM 471 was show, offering fuel savings of up to 4%.
Specifically, Mercedes-Benz Trucks has used innovations to cut fuel consumption, such as an optimised turbocharger.
In addition, an extended ‘Top Torque’ program provides power specifically when it is needed by the driver.
As a result, fuel can be saved under normal conditions and used for specific situations.
Stina Fagerman, head of marketing, sales and services, Mercedes-Benz Trucks, explained more.
“The transition to CO2-neutral road transport is in full swing.
“For the transitional phase, we aim to further optimise our premium trucks with conventional diesel engines.
“Not only in the interest of our customers, not only to sustainably reduce total cost of ownership, but also the CO2 footprint.”
Meanwhile, vehicle dynamics across the whole Actros range has been improved.
A new version of Mercedes-Benz’ Powershift transmission offers faster and smoother gearchanges.
The diesel developments on the updated drivetrain will be available on the Actros, Actros L and Arocs models.
Talking of models, there’s a new special edition of the Actos L, however it is limited to 400 units.
The Edition 3 offers up to 30 exterior and interior features from the standard truck.
On the exterior, for example, there are two additional headlights and stainless steel entry steps.
Furthermore, the interior can be customised to the wishes of the operator.
Edition 3 is available for all two- and three-axled models of the latest Actros L with GigaSpace and BigSpace cabs.
