Rothwell Truck Stop is a purpose-built HGV facility beside Junction 3 of the A14 near Kettering. Opened in 2019 and operated by Welcome Break, it provides more than 200 truck spaces, secure parking, fuel, freshly prepared food and a wider range of driver facilities than most motorway service areas.
The truck stop is signposted from the eastbound and westbound A14 and can also be reached from the A6. Westbound drivers leave at Junction 3, turn left at the roundabout and take the first left. Eastbound traffic crosses the junction before taking the entrance from Orton Road. The approach is straightforward and avoids sending trucks through Rothwell itself.
Parking is divided into several areas around the amenities building. The layout provides plenty of room for manoeuvring, although trailer changeovers can cause disturbance at night. Drivers report a separate area for refrigerated vehicles, which should help anyone hoping to avoid spending a night beside a running fridge motor.
Security is one of Rothwell’s strongest points. The hardstanding parking area has barrier-controlled entry, CCTV, lighting and security fencing. Drivers can leave and return during a paid stay. The site holds Park Mark status and the Safer Parking Award, giving operators reassurance when vehicles and loads remain parked overnight.
The first two hours are free. Parking for up to 24 hours currently costs £31, or £34 with two £6 food vouchers. The meal option makes sense if you plan to use the restaurant, as another £3 provides £12 to spend. Rothwell has resisted filling its amenities building with the usual motorway fast-food franchises. The Kitchen serves cooked breakfasts and evening meals, alongside lighter options from the shop and Rollover hot dogs. Reviews regularly praise the portions and prices, although some drivers describe the food as fairly standard canteen fare. Breakfast reportedly starts at 6am on weekdays and 8am at weekends, but current restaurant hours should be checked before relying on a late meal.
There is also a licensed bar, drivers’ lounge, pool table and GameZone. These help Rothwell feel like a proper truck stop rather than a parking area attached to a petrol station. The lounge provides sofas, television and quieter seating away from the restaurant.
The showers were recently refurbished, with separate male and female facilities. Drivers generally rate them highly for cleanliness, although occasional reviews mention low water pressure. Toilets received a Platinum Loo of the Year award in 2024. Free Wi-Fi, an outdoor gym, accessible facilities and a Revolution self-service laundry complete a strong package.
The 24-hour forecourt supplies fast-fill HGV diesel and AdBlue. A shop remains open around the clock for drinks, snacks and basic truck and personal supplies. There is no truck wash or hotel.
Rothwell is not the cheapest truck stop, but its security, space and driver facilities justify the charge better than many service areas. Clean showers, a lounge, proper meals, laundry and more than 200 spaces make it one of the stronger overnight options on the A14.
