Welsh operator K1 logistics has committed to a new truck brand, welcoming six new FH models to its fleet.

The new vehicles are all 460s, with I-Save Globetrotter 6×2 tractor units.

In addition, the company will take delivery of a further two models later in the year.

The new trucks replace equivalent models from a rival manufacturer and the deal was arranged through Truck and Bus Wales and West.

Kurt Evans, K1 Logistics’ MD, explained his requirements for the new trucks.

“We wanted a model that looked good out on the road and that would make our drivers’ lives easier,” he said.

“The early indication is that our new FHs more than fit the bill.

“In other words, our drivers don’t have a bad word to say about them.”

All six trucks have D13TC Step E engines and, therefore, produce 460hp and a peak torque of 2,600Nm.

These powertrains also feature turbo-compounding to reduce fuel consumption without compromising driveability.

As a result, drivers can make full use of the available energy at every stage to deliver – thereby increasing efficiency.

Meanwhile, Evans said that environmental awareness was also important to the Welsh operator.

“Reduced carbon footprint and improved operational efficiency are two goals that rarely go hand-in-hand.

“Hence why we were so impressed with the results the I-Save, I-Shift, I-See package combination produced,” he said.

“During our trial, we saw significant fuel savings which we project could yield a £10,000 annual cost saving per truck.

Thankfully, the company’s first six trucks are already receiving rave reviews from K1 Logistics’ drivers.

They have noted how much more comfortable and spacious the Globetrotter cab is, compared with the model they replaced.

Concluding, Evans said: “The consensus is that it is simply a far more comfortable and enjoyable truck to work in.”
