Sandwich-based waste processing and recycling specialist TW Services has taken delivery of a new Mercedes-Benz Arocs 32-tonner – nicknamed ‘Gruffalo’ – which was supplied by dealer Sparshatts of Kent.
The Arocs 3240 has a ClassicSpace M-cab and 394 bhp (290 kW) Euro 6 engine. It is fitted with a steel Thompsons Loadmaster body and a 12.5 tonne/m Epsilon M125L crane with grab.
TW Services’ 45-strong fleet of skip- and hook-loaders, and tipper-grabs, includes two other Merc trucks: a 6×2 Actros 2551 BigSpace tractor unit, commissioned last year and which pulls a walking-floor trailer; and a 13-tonne Atego skip-loader registered in 2005.
“We’ve traditionally favoured trucks by a Swedish manufacturer,” said manager Richard Lloyd. “But Sparshatts’ sales executive Martin Kemsley has been in regular contact and left us in no doubt they’re keen to do business with us.
“Sparshatts have supported the Actros well, so we’ve decided to try the Arocs and see how it measures up against our other eight-wheelers. It was the right truck and available at the right time.”
Family-owned and managed TW Services was founded in 1995 and operated initially as a skip supplier from a site in Thanet. Having moved in 2007 to its current base at Richborough Hall, the company now employs more than 85 staff and provides a comprehensive range of services.
The Arocs will be working all over Kent and TW Services said no two days are the same – one day it might be recovering rubble from a demolition site, the next lifting soil from a domestic garden.
“These are still very early days, but the Arocs has won a big ‘thumbs up’ from its driver – and he’s not an easy guy to please!” Lloyd said.
