Tipper bodies manufacturer Thompsons (UK) Ltd has ordered a pair of dynamic weighbridges from Axtec to help meet the European Community Whole Vehicle Type Approval (EC WVTA) regulations, which come into effect for ‘completed’ vehicles in October.
Axtec will install the weighbridges at Thompsons’ plants in Croydon and Blackburn. The work will be carried out during the annual holiday shutdown in August to minimise disruption to production at the two sites.
Using in-house resources, the Runcorn-based company will carry out the complete installation including all civil engineering work and full on-site calibration using a test vehicle.
Thompsons said the ability to weigh every vehicle it produces is a key part of Whole Vehicle Type Approval, as it allows a Certificate of Conformity to be produced without which a vehicle cannot be registered. The data gathered will also be used as part of the firm’s product improvement process to help identify opportunities for further weight savings.
“Thompsons is a very forward-looking company that has built an excellent and well-deserved reputation for the quality of its products and the efficiency of its manufacturing operations,” said Axtec managing director, Keith Gresham. “I believe our 4000 dynamic weighbridge will contribute further to this.”
