A former apprentice at Thomas Hardie Commercials has taken delivery of a new Volvo truck.

The FH 500 Globetrotter Lite 6×2 tractor unit is Sam Archer’s first new truck in five years.

The vehicle has been added to the fleet at family business, Archway Haulage, where Archer is director.

In addition, it comes 10 years after he completed his apprenticeship at Thomas Hardie.

Archer left his role in the workshop in 2014 to jointly run the family bus and coach hire operation with his father.

Unfortunately, Archer’s Dad passed away this summer after a very short and sudden battle with cancer.

Importantly, Archer Snr is recognised with a heartfelt message on the cab of the new Volvo.

“We grew the business bit by bit together,” explained Archer.

“And now we are taking delivery of four brand new trucks all in the space of a few months.

“The first FH looks absolutely fantastic and the driver loves it.

“However, it’s just such a shame Dad’s not here to be part of it.”

The first new vehicle will operate with a Fruehauf bulk tipping trailer.

As a result, it will deliver aggregates nationwide, covering up to 120,000km a year.

The FH acquired by the former apprentice features a number of features.

For example, it boasts a full DVS system and tipping gear.

In addition, there are also beacons and a colour coordinated front grille.

Meanwhile, Thomas Hardie Commercials will maintain the new truck.

Therefore, it will be covered under a three-year Volvo Gold Contract, which guarantees the maximum possible uptime.

Concluding, Archer said: “Cut me in half, and you’d see Volvo runs through me.

“I love the product, you can’t beat it.

“And I say that having had the opportunity to both work in my local dealership and now be a customer.”
