Bulk transport operator M E Saunders & Sons has taken delivery of a new Volvo FM 500 Globetrotter 6×2 tractor unit. 

Furthermore, more are on their way to the fleet as the company has ordered another two identical models. 

Also, the three FMs replace trucks from a rival manufacturer. 

As a result, the business’ 18-strong fleet will have a slightly different look to it in the future. 

The M E Saunders & Sons trucks typically work in various quarries in Cumbria. 

In addition, they are tasked with delivering a range of aggregates across the north of England. 

Therefore, the Volvo FMs were chosen due to their ‘proven reliability’ and the ‘excellent working environment’. 

Meanwhile the three trucks are powered by Volvo’s proven D13K Euro 6 engine. 

Importantly, the engine produces up to 500hp and a peak torque figure of 2,500Nm. 

Therefore, it’s plenty of power for pulling M E Saunders & Sons’ heavy bulk loads. 

Rowland Saunders, co-owner of the family-run firm, explained more. 

“We’ve had a long tradition of running Volvos and chose them again this time. 

“We have always found the Volvos to be more reliable and robust than the other manufacturers we’ve had in the fleet.” 

Continuing, Saunders said the company did look at some other options, but the FM came out on top. 

“Basically, we know they won’t let us down,” he revealed. 

“You can’t afford to have vehicles off the road in this line of work. 

Also, The new cab interior of the FM was a real plus point for the operator. 

“The interior is really impressive, very comfortable and everything is where it should be,” said Saunders. 

“Importantly, the driver of the first truck loves it.” 

Meanwhile, M E Saunders & Sons recently marked its 100th anniversary. 

The bulk transport firm operates out of its base in Ulverston.
