Renault Trucks T480 Turbo Compound tractor units have joined the KJ Transport fleet as part of a major fleet renewal programme designed to improve fuel efficiency, lower emissions and enhance driver comfort.

KJ Transport, part of the Fred Sherwood Group, has taken delivery of 10 Renault Trucks T480 Turbo Compound 4×2 tractor units supplied by RH Commercial Vehicles (RHCV). The investment replaces older vehicles and supports the operator’s wider goals of reducing operating costs while improving sustainability and driver wellbeing.

The latest additions also mark the first time turbo compound technology has been introduced into KJ Transport’s fleet, having already been used successfully elsewhere within the Fred Sherwood Group.

Improving efficiency

Like many UK haulage operators, KJ Transport has faced increasing pressure to improve fuel economy while controlling operating costs.

Replacing older vehicles with the new Renault Trucks T480 Turbo Compound models is expected to help address those challenges through improved fuel efficiency and reduced carbon emissions.

According to Renault Trucks, the turbo compound powertrain can reduce fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions by up to 10%, helping operators lower running costs while supporting their environmental targets.

The new vehicles also contribute to wider sustainability objectives, with Renault Trucks highlighting the model’s Gold EcoVadis sustainability rating.

Safety and driver comfort

Alongside improved efficiency, the new tractor units introduce a range of driver assistance and comfort features.

Each vehicle has achieved a four-star Euro NCAP safety rating and is equipped with systems including:

  • Hill Start Assist
  • Lane Assist
  • Emergency Braking System

KJ Transport says driver wellbeing was also an important factor when specifying the fleet.

The cabs feature Renault Trucks’ Comfort driver’s seat with height memory, seat ventilation and adjustable lumbar support. Drivers also benefit from a 24-litre refrigerator, automatic air conditioning, cruise control and a digital dashboard designed to improve usability during long working days.

The operator believes these features will help improve driver satisfaction while supporting productivity and retention.

Long-standing partnership

The vehicles were supplied by RH Commercial Vehicles, Renault Trucks dealer for the East Midlands.

KJ Transport says its long-standing relationship with RHCV played an important role in the procurement process, citing transparent communication, consistent customer service and a strong understanding of the company’s operational requirements.

The latest order further strengthens the partnership between the two businesses, with both expecting the relationship to continue as future fleet investment plans develop.

Supporting future fleet renewal

Based in Castle Donington, Derbyshire, KJ Transport specialises in freight transport, international haulage, air freight and roller-bed services throughout the UK and Europe.

The latest Renault Trucks T480 Turbo Compound order forms part of the company’s wider fleet modernisation programme, balancing improved operating efficiency with lower environmental impact and enhanced driver comfort.

For RH Commercial Vehicles, which has represented Renault Trucks in the East Midlands for more than 40 years, the order continues its work supporting operators investing in modern commercial vehicle technology while preparing fleets for future sustainability requirements.
