Design functionality, materials and colours of MAN’s new truck generation have impressed judges at the iF design awards.

Specifically, the MAN TGX impressed in a competition that featured almost 10,000 entries from 52 countries.

In addition, the truck model was singled out for its functional design, inside and out.

Meanwhile, the quality of the materials and colours in the MAN truck range convinced the 98-strong jury of its’ worth.

Rudolf Kupitza, MAN’s truck design boss, explained the thinking behind the design.

“On the outside, the dynamic design combines progress, tradition and sustainability and creates a powerful and emotional truck personality with the lion logo.

“Meanwhile, inside it’s consistently geared to the driver’s need for an intuitive, safe and comfortable workplace and living space.”

Göran Nyberg, MAN’s board member for sales and customer solutions, said the company was very proud of the award.

“It’s a great recognition of the creativity and passion of our entire design team,” he explained.

“The new trucks are real MAN and lion-strong companions for every driver.”

The iF awards come after a Red Dot in the Red Dot Design Awards and a Gold award in the German Design Awards.

The German award recognised the particularly practical design of the driver’s workplace.

More than 700 truck drivers were invoiced in the development of MAN’s latest generation of trucks.

They drove the vehicle within a simulator and on test tracks, to get a full experience of the vehicles.

Therefore, they were able to advise on essential elements in the cab such as materials, seating and sleeping layouts and assistance systems.

The iF design awards highlight elements such as design functionality, packaging, architecture and user experience.

All award-winning entries are presented in an iF guide and are also published in the iF design app.
