Making the switch to natural gas from diesel trucks could be easier than you might think.
That’s the message from industry association, the Gas Vehicle Network (GVN).
In addition, the GVN has launched a 90-second video showing how straightforward the transformation can be.
The video highlights a number of advantages of moving away from diesel fuel.
For example, potential cost savings of up to £30,000 a year are suggested.
Isaac Occhipinti, head of external affairs at the Gas Vehicle Network, explained more.
“There is so much information out there for fleet operators to trawl through and the decarbonisation landscape can be overwhelming.
“Therefore, we wanted a simple way to show how easy it is to make the switch to natural gas.”
The video features a number of manufactures in the video, such as Volvo, Scania and Iveco.
Meanwhile, it also explains the journey towards a greener future by making the switch from diesel.
The GVN says the move to renewable biomethane gas is possible in “three simple steps”.
“Industry statistics show that use of biomethane as a transport fuel is growing rapidly in this sector,” adds Occhipinti.
“For example, in 2020, 93% of the total gas fuel dispensed for HGVs was renewable biomethane.
Furthermore, he said government statistics showed that biomethane used in HGVs was up from 80% in 2019, up 16% in a year.
“This increase, follows a 78% increase in sales of renewable gas as a transport fuel during 2020.”
“By switching from diesel to renewable biomethane gas, fleet operators could see savings of approximately 52%.
“In addition, with biomethane, net CO2 emissions could be cut by over 84%.”
Concluding, Occhipinti said biomethane could transport the UK to Net Zero 2050.”
“It is becoming increasingly clear that biomethane can deliver substantial financial and carbon savings for fleet managers.”
