Dutch commercial vehicle manufacturer DAF Trucks has reported it strengthened its position in the European truck market in 2012. The marque has a market share of 16 per cent in the heavy segment (16+ tonnes), and is leading the market in the heavy tractor segment with a market share of 19.1 per cent.
This makes DAF the second largest truck brand in the EU, and market leader in The Netherlands, Belgium, the UK, Poland, Czech Republic and Hungary.
“We are proud of continuing our market leadership position in the European heavy tractor segment,” said Ron Bonsen, member of the board of management of DAF Trucks NV and responsible for marketing & sales. “Combined with achieving the second position in the European heavy truck market, it shows how much our customers value our trucks.
“We are receiving excellent feedback from customers on our Euro 5 ATe vehicles, which are leading the way in fuel efficiency and low operating cost.”
The total market for heavy commercial vehicles in the EU in 2012 was about 222,000 units – a decrease of nine per cent compared to 2011, when 242,500 trucks were registered in this segment.
