Iveco’s Stralis top-end heavy truck range now comes in three guises – Hi-Way, Hi-Road and Hi-Street. Hi-Way is its top-of-the-range flagship tractor designed for long-haul operations.

The step from its EuroTech/EuroStar models to Stralis was monumental and, likewise, new Stralis is a completely different truck to its predecessor. Differences between previous Iveco models and the latest Stralis are stark, and first impressions for drivers climbing aboard a new Stralis Hi-Way will undoubtedly be positive.

Hi-Way is the flagship of the Iveco heavy truck range and the interior design, layout and fit and finish reflect this. A mix of new materials is used to give luxurious, but hard-wearing surfaces in and around the cab interior.

Previous models meeting Euro 5 emissions, and EEV models aimed at offering even cleaner options to operators, used in-line six-cylinder FPT (Fiat Power Train) Industrial Cursor 8, Cursor 10 and Cursor 13 engines. Cursor 8 came in 310 bhp, 330 bhp and 360 bhp; Cursor 10 in 420 bhp and 460 bhp, while the big workhorse motors were Cursor 13 versions in 480 bhp (in conjunction with Hi-Road and High Street cabs), 500 bhp and 560 bhp. These had all earned a reputation for good fuel economy in the right hands.

With the move to Euro 6, these engines were replaced with a new line-up of FPT Industrial powerplants – Cursor 9, Cursor 10 and Cursor 13. Cursor 9s come in 310 bhp, 330 bhp, 360 bhp and 400 bhp; Cursor 11s in 420 bhp, 460 bhp and 480 bhp, while the top power Cursor 13s are 500 bhp and 560 bhp. Iveco claims, through use of its HI-eSCR system, the higher displacement and torque of its Euro 6 engines gives the same frugal fuel consumption as the previous Euro 5 and EEV models.
