Manchester-based D Hughes Demolition has added a new Volvo FMX 420 8×4 rigid to its fleet.
The new arrival replaces another FMX that has been in service for nearly a decade at the company.
Furthermore, the replacement FMX 420 arrived ahead of schedule due to the operator picking up a cancelled order.
A number of bespoke items feature on the truck to enable it to be fit for purpose.
For example, it comes mounted with a Hiab Multilift hookloader body and VBG drawbar coupling.
Ryan Hughes, Director at D Hughes Demolition, explained the reasons behind the new investment.
“Our Volvo FMX 500 has served us well for nine years, but the time had come to sort out its replacement,” he said.
Hughes revealed that the company did look to see what other manufacturers had to offer.
However, he said previous first-hand positive experience with reliability and performance swayed him.
Continuing, he said: “We are looking forward to seeing what the new model FMX can do.”
Just like the outgoing model D Hughes Demolition’s FMX 420 is built for tough and demanding conditions.
In other words, it offers agility, visibility and durability – as well as keeping the driver safe and comfortable.
Meanwhile, inside the cab there are further safety and comfort touches.
For example, the FMX 420 has new anti-slip footsteps and a clear and modern digital dashboard display.
The FMX is powered by Volvo’s 420hp D13K Euro 6 engine, capable of producing 2,100Nm of torque.
Hughes says he expects it to be in service for at least four years.
“It’s going to be a real workhorse for us,” he promised.
“We’ve no firm estimate as to how many miles it will eventually do.
“However, we’re very confident that it will more than earn its pay, wherever our work takes us.”
