Warrington-based United Utilities has boosted its vehicle fleet with the addition to two Volvo FMX 6x4s.
The trucks, will be used for bulk tipping on the firm’s bioresources division.
Specifically, the trucks have sleeper cabs as well as improved comfort and durability in the driver’s environment.
In addition, United Utilities a number of special features that help drivers while out on the road and on operations.
For example, the trucks feature headlamp protectors, anti-slip footsteps and LED and a digital dashboard.
The United Utilities fleet numbers 350 vehicles, many of them Volvos, including two 8×4 FMX tippers.
Therefore, the company was keen to add more trucks from the Swesish manufacturer when it required them.
Martin Shaw, from United Utilities, explained more.
“Our vehicles work on five-year asset management periods.
“Therefore, when it was time to refresh our contracts, we shared our requirements with all the major players in the industry.
“Volvo has been awarded the contract for the past two renewals as its vehicles have consistently proven to be the best fit for our operation.”
Meanwhile, Thomas Hardie Commercials was responsible for supplying the FMXs.
“Through Thomas Hardie Commercials, Volvo has an excellent dealer support network in the North West,” added Shaw.
Interestingly, he added it was “something we haven’t always experienced” with competitor manufacturers.
The new FMX tractor units are powered by Volvo’s D13K engine generating 500hp and 2,500Nm of torque.
Furthermore, they are paired with bulk tipping trailers manufactured by Wilcox Commercial Vehicles.
As a result, they will be used to transfer sewage sludge to farmland across the UK.
Operating up to six days a week, the trucks are covered by a Volvo Gold Contract.
In other words, the contract guarantees maximum uptime, with servicing and maintenance to be carried out at a Warrington dealership.
