SeaCube, a leader in refrigerated intermodal equipment leasing, has partnered with Greensee to redefine sustainability in the cold chain logistics industry. Their collaboration has resulted in the introduction of Green and Net-Zero Reefer Leases, bolstered by Greensee’s AI-driven CO2 emissions reporting technology.

A Revolutionary Electric Genset

SeaCube, in partnership with Thermo King and CMA CGM, has piloted the E-COOLPAC electric genset. This innovative battery-powered refrigerated container genset offers:

  • Zero CO2 and particulate emissions during operation.
  • Renewable energy compatibility.
  • Compatibility with various refrigeration units, including Thermo King’s CFF and Magnum Plus.

Fabien Gresy-Aveline, Vice President of Container Fleet at CMA CGM, praised the genset, stating: “By transitioning away from diesel, we are taking a significant step toward more sustainable refrigerated transport.”

Efficiency in Green Leasing

Refrigerated containers account for about 10% of a ship’s container capacity but consume 20-30% of its power. SeaCube’s Green Reefer Leases tackle this issue with advanced analytics and next-generation designs. These innovations deliver up to 20% energy savings and reduced emissions.

The collaboration with Pacific International Lines (PIL) further strengthens these sustainability efforts through a greenhouse gas reporting pilot, helping identify opportunities for operational efficiency.

Offsetting Emissions

SeaCube’s Net-Zero Reefer Leases allow customers to offset remaining emissions via carbon credits. These initiatives align operations with global environmental goals, making net-zero logistics a practical reality.

Gregory Tuthill, Chief Commercial Officer at SeaCube, highlighted: “These initiatives not only help customers meet rigorous sustainability targets but also significantly reduce the carbon footprint of refrigerated transport.”

Advanced Analytics for Compliance

Greensee’s advanced AI tools enable businesses to monitor emissions in real-time, optimising refrigerated transport while ensuring compliance with regulations. Luc Terrel, CEO of Greensee, stated: “Our partnership with SeaCube is a pivotal step toward a more sustainable future in cold chain logistics.”
