Salford Van Hire is the first UK operator to run a fleet of Schmitz Cargobull’s new S.KO PACE SMART semi-trailers.
The company has acquired 40 to work on nationwide contracts for various customers.
For example, the trailers will go into service with supermarkets, retailers and parcel delivery companies.
To clarify, the trailers are the first of their kind built at the company’s Manchester factory.
In addition, they join the existing fleet at Salford Van Hire of 1,800 dry freight curtainsiders and reefers.
Meanwhile, Steve McNally, contract and fleet engineering director at Salford Van Hire, was delighted with the new additions.
“These new semi-trailers which are perfectly suited to our needs,” he said.
“The fact they are manufactured in the UK is hugely beneficial both for lead times and cost.
“It also helps us reducing our environmental impact.”
Specifically, the lightweight construction of the trailers will help achieve that goal.
For example, lightweight panels mean each semi-trailer weighs around 600kg less than competitor models.
Furthermore, its payload potential on day one will be maintained for the life of the asset.
In other words, these qualities will translate into reduced emissions and lower fuel bills.
Salford Van Hire has worked with Schmitz Cargobull for more than 10 years.
As a result, it was able to placed the order without the need to trial a demonstrator vehicle.
Concluding, McNally says: “We have always been impressed by the quality, design and build of Schmitz Cargobull trailers.
“Therefore, we were completely confident in our choice to be the first to run S.KO PACE SMART trailers.
“Now we have them, they are already exceeding our expectations.”
The new additions are expected to be in operation seven days a week.
