Building products manufacturer Sto has developed a close partnership with transport specialist Rhys Davis Freight Logistics to deliver its high-quality rendering materials directly to construction sites across the UK. Products are collected daily from Sto’s warehouses in Glasgow and Basingstoke and transferred to RDFL’s regional depots for delivery the next day.
RDFL’s expertise in transporting liquid products is one of the key reasons for Sto’s long-standing relationship with the company. “We pride ourselves on being an ethical company in everything we do,” said logistics manager Stephen Catterson. “Our slogan is ‘building with conscience’, and it’s very important the pails are delivered in a manner that matches that claim. The render is a paint-like product and although it’s not hazardous, it needs to be handled with great care so it arrives on site in pristine condition. Spillages or damage of any kind are just not acceptable.”
Last year, RDFL delivered around 14,500 pallets to 2600 locations in the UK for use on major building projects, including the new Kent History & Library Centre, the waterfront regeneration project at Cranfield Mill in Ipswich, and the Waterside Theatre in Aylesbury.
Despite challenging times in the construction industry, Sto is expanding its operations in the UK and plans to open a new warehouse in Birmingham during the early part of 2013. Rhys Davies’s regional depot in Tipton is only 10 miles from the new site, and will provide an ideal location for receiving liquid products for onward delivery to Sto’s customers.
