Family firm Allen Logistics is moving on up in the transport world, having added more trucks to its fleet.
Firstly, the company has taken delivery of two Actros 2548 tractor units.
The two trucks come equipped with MirrorCam, which makes its debut in the Allen Logistics lineup.
Secondly, the Co. Armargh-based operator has also invested in a used 18-tonne Actros.
This investment was made after the two new trucks and the vehicle will be used for local distribution work.
The new trucks show a continued shift towards Mercedes-Benz trucks for Allen Logistics.
Therefore, now around two-thirds of the fleet have a three-pointed star at the front.
James Allen, MD of Allen Logistics, explained the move.
“We favour Mercedes-Benz trucks for their ‘bulletproof’ reliability and attractive whole-life costs of operation.
“The new units are performing well in terms of fuel-efficiency and the drivers are very happy with them.
In addition, Allen said that his drivers like the cab and dash layout.
“They also needed very little time to get used to the MirrorCam system,” he added. “We were keen to introduce [it] to the fleet because of the safety benefits it offers.”
Specifically, Allen highlighted the elimination of forward-facing blindspots caused by mirrors.
Furthermore, the new trucks feature 2.5m cabs and are powered by a 12.8-litre engine.
They replace vehicles from another truck brand.
The investment proving the company is moving on up to reach its Mercedes-Benz fleet goal.
Meanwhile, the Actros 1824 will also prove its worth on the Allen Logistics fleet.
“It makes sense to purchase pre-owned models for our palletised collections and deliveries,” explained Allen.
“Experience has proved that other makes of truck don’t last anything like as long,” he added.
