UK and European haulier MDF Transport has clocked nearly 400,000 miles on one vehicle, using Michelin X Multi Energy tyres.
The operator has reported that the long-lasting rubber has run on the drive axle of one of its Volvo FH trucks.
MDF Transport specifies all of its new vehicles with Michelin tyres because of the advantages they offer.
For example, it has reported lower running costs and better fuel consumption with the Michelins than other brands.
Mark Farrow, Managing Director at MDF Transport, explained more.
“In our view, running another make of tyre is just not an option when you consider the performance and longevity we get from Michelin.
“We do a lot of work in the oil and gas industry, moving pretty heavy loads with a variety of flatbed, low-loader and extendable trailers.
“Therefore, our work we generally find the X Multi Energy to be the best choice.
“We have a set of 315/70 R22.5 fitments running on the drive axle on one of our Volvos.
“That vehicle, in particular, has just passed 386,000 miles and the tyres are still going strong.”
Continuing, Farrow said the the total cost of ownership couldn’t be beaten.
As a result, when MDF Transport recently added four Volvo FHs, Michelin was the only option.
“When you buy tyres now, it’s so important that you look at the energy rating,” added Farrow.
“In other words, we take the process very seriously, ensuring we are operating at the optimal set-up.”
He maintains that there are three factors to getting the best fuel economy.
First, it is all bout the truck being the best it can.
Secondly, the vehicle needs a good driver.
And, finally, “really good, fuel-efficient tyres” are essential.
“Getting all those ducks in a row will give you the right results,” he said.
