Heidelberg Materials UK has strengthened its fleet with the addition of 52 new Volvo FM 8×4 Tridem concrete mixers. The investment is part of a fleet upgrade designed to improve off-road performance and efficiency at construction sites across the UK.
The Tridem mixers, built for challenging terrain, are powered by Volvo’s fuel-efficient D11K diesel engines. Each truck delivers 430hp and 2,050Nm of torque, supported by Volvo’s 12-speed I-Shift gearbox for excellent handling on hilly and tough environments.
Designed for Performance and Safety
Built with an X-High chassis and rear air suspension, the Volvo FM Tridem offers superior ground clearance for off-road tasks. Each unit is equipped with an 8-metre McPhee concrete mixer body and a 350-litre aluminium water tank, ensuring reliability during demanding operations.
Safety features include additional side-view cameras, Forward Collision Warning with emergency braking, and Lane Departure Warning systems. Driver comfort is prioritised with spacious sleeper cabs featuring air conditioning, dual armrests, a fridge/freezer, and a tinted glass roof hatch.
“These mixers replace older Volvos in our fleet and are ideal for diverse environments, from city centres to rural and construction sites,” said Paul Newton, Regional Transport Manager at Heidelberg Materials UK.
Sustainability Focus
The new Volvos will help reduce carbon emissions, supporting Heidelberg Materials’ sustainability targets. Operating five to six days a week, each truck is expected to cover 25,000km annually. A Volvo Gold Contract ensures peace of mind with preventative maintenance and repairs.
