Harrison’s Transport has welcomed ten new Volvo FH Aero 6×2 tractor units into its Preston-based fleet. The new arrivals feature Globetrotter XL cabs and are expected to boost fuel efficiency while enhancing driver comfort.
The Volvo FH Aero trucks replace vehicles from a rival brand. According to Managing Director Lee Harrison, the decision was made after a positive trial. “We had a demonstrator in for a few weeks, and the feedback was really positive in terms of fuel performance and the feel of the drive. Volvo then came back with a very competitive offer and we didn’t hesitate.”
Currently delivering around 11 mpg, Harrison expects even better returns as the trucks bed in. Each unit is powered by Volvo’s Euro D13TC Step E 460 hp engine with turbo compound technology. This design recycles exhaust energy, converting it into torque for the crankshaft, improving overall efficiency.
The trucks also include I-Shift 12-speed gearboxes with long-haul software and I-See predictive cruise control, helping maintain fuel economy over hilly terrain. Visibility is improved with Volvo’s Camera Monitoring System, which replaces traditional mirrors and enhances safety while aiding aerodynamics.
Inside, each cab features a microwave, fridge, leather trim, and Volvo’s I-Park Cool overnight air-con system. “Our drivers are out for three nights at a time,” said Harrison. “Comfort is always a priority.”
The trucks will cover 180,000 km a year, transporting chilled goods such as milk and salads. They are supported by Volvo Gold contracts for maintenance and repairs, supplied by Thomas Hardie Commercials.
