Refrigerated transport company Peter Green Chilled has put 15 new Volvo FH tractor units on the road – and according to the company, the trucks are achieving 0.5 mpg better fuel economy than its ‘Classic’ FHs.
The new vehicles, supplied by Truck and Bus Wales & West, are based at the company’s Evercreech distribution centre in Somerset and company trainer Derek Chant said he expects the fuel economy to improve further once the vehicles are run in.
The firm said it anticipates the new FHs will each cover around 160,000 km per year, and driver feedback has been positive. “Overall driveability and cab comfort are much improved compared to the ‘Classic’ FH,” Chant said.
The new Globetrotter XL-cabbed FHs were specified with Euro 5 D13C-500 engines, VEB engine brakes and I-Shift automated gearboxes with I-See software for reading topography.
