Ford Trucks and IVECO have signed a Joint Development Agreement (JDA) to co-design a next-generation heavy-duty truck cabin. This partnership will enhance both brands’ competitiveness by focusing on safety, aerodynamics, and modularity, ensuring compliance with future EU regulations.
Strategic Collaboration for Innovation
The agreement follows a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in March 2024. Now formalised, the JDA sets out a framework for the co-development and manufacturing of a new modular cabin. Each company will produce and customise the cabins at their own facilities while maintaining brand identity.
The heavy-duty truck cabin will prioritise:
- Compliance with the upcoming EU Direct Vision Standard
- Improved aerodynamics to lower carbon emissions
- Enhanced driver comfort and safety
- Full compatibility with all powertrains
The project, valued at €343 million, is expected to deliver its first production-ready cabins by 2028.
Industry Leaders Drive the Future
Emrah Duman, Vice President of Ford Trucks, highlighted the importance of the partnership: “This Joint Development Agreement is a testament to our ability to design and develop cutting-edge solutions that exceed industry standards. By joining forces with IVECO, we will deliver innovative, high-performance cabins that set new benchmarks in safety, aerodynamics, and driver comfort.”
Luca Sra, President of IVECO’s Truck Business Unit, added: “This agreement allows both IVECO and Ford Trucks to stay at the forefront of the market, complying with new regulations and delivering exceptional quality and value to our customers.”
