DSV has introduced four Volvo FH Aero Electric 4×2 tractor units into its UK operations, marking the first use of this model in the country. The trucks are the initial arrivals in a wider commitment to add over 300 zero-exhaust emission Volvo trucks by 2026.

The new electric vehicles replace older diesel models and are based at DSV’s Immingham facility. They will operate on existing routes, immediately cutting emissions. Keith Northen, Divisional Manager – Road at DSV, said the FH Aero Electric provided “a practical solution” aligned with operational and sustainability goals.

“When you’re introducing new technology into a working fleet, you need a partner that understands the operational challenges and can offer real-world solutions,” said Northen. “Volvo gave us that confidence.”

Technical and Driver-Focused Features

Each of the new trucks is fitted with six batteries, giving them an estimated range of up to 300 km. They can be recharged in 2.5 hours using a 250kW DC charger. The drivetrain includes three electric motors delivering up to 666hp and 2,400Nm of torque.

Volvo’s I-Shift gearbox ensures smooth operation, and the FH Aero’s cab has been redesigned for improved aerodynamics. Energy regeneration under braking or when descending helps maximise battery efficiency.

For driver comfort, DSV has specified Globetrotter cabs with leather upholstery, heated and suspended seats, and premium bedding. There’s also a 33-litre fridge and extra storage on board.

Safety and assistance systems include Volvo’s Camera Monitoring System, Forward Collision Warning with adaptive cruise control, Emergency Braking, Lane Keeping Support and more. The camera system, which replaces traditional wing mirrors, improves both visibility and aerodynamics. It also auto-pans when cornering with a trailer.

High Uptime and Long-Term Strategy

DSV’s trucks are covered by a Volvo Gold Contract, including full maintenance and proactive battery monitoring. This supports the company’s uptime strategy and electric transition.

Founded in 1976, DSV is now the world’s fourth-largest logistics business, operating across road, air and sea. The new electric trucks are part of a longer-term goal to run 2,000 electric vehicles by 2030. The deal with Volvo also includes 500 low-emission diesel and gas trucks.
