Hypnos Beds has taken a major step towards decarbonisation by introducing two Volvo FM Electric trucks. The move was facilitated by its logistics partner, DFDS. The vehicles, a 4×2 curtainside rigid and a 4×2 tractor unit, will serve retail and distribution hubs in London and Milton Keynes.
Enhanced Features
Each Volvo FM Electric truck comes with impressive specifications. The rigid truck features five batteries, while the tractor unit boasts six, delivering up to 666 hp and 2,400 Nm of torque. Volvo’s I-Shift gearbox ensures smooth and quiet operation, making for a premium in-cab experience.
Safety is prioritised with Forward Collision Warning, Advanced Emergency Braking, and Lane Departure Warning systems. The trucks are also equipped with Volvo’s new Camera Monitoring System, replacing traditional mirrors to improve visibility in all conditions.
Comfort is enhanced by features such as heated seats, adjustable steering wheels, and dynamic climate control. Visibility is improved with LED headlights and advanced rain-sensing wipers.
A Commitment to Sustainability
Peter Keen, Chairman of Hypnos Beds, highlighted the importance of these trucks: “By integrating these FM Electrics into our logistics operations, we are taking tangible action to ensure our products are delivered with minimal impact on the planet.”
Charging infrastructure has been installed at Hypnos Beds’ Princes Risborough site. The trucks will operate five days a week, recharging overnight with 43kW AC chargers supplied by Volvo.
This move aligns with Hypnos Beds’ ambition to become the world’s first carbon-neutral bedmaker. The family-run company, founded in 1904, continues to lead in sustainable practices.
