Campbell Contracts has continued its long association with Volvo Trucks by adding a new Volvo FM500 tractor unit to its fleet. The Northern Ireland business, which operates from Tempo in County Fermanagh, has chosen the 6×2 tag-axle model, plated for 65-tonne GCW operation. The deal was handled by Damian Kerin, New Sales Executive at Dennison Commercials, a supplier that has worked closely with the company for many years.

The family-run business operates a fleet of around 40 vehicles, including an original FH and an FL7 tractor unit that both remain in service. For Brendan Campbell, Director at Campbell Contracts, the decision to stay with Volvo reflects the trust built up over decades of operation. “We’ve had a long relationship with Volvo, and that trust has only grown stronger over the years. From the very first truck we bought through Damian when he started at Dennison Commercials, we’ve consistently seen the reliability and performance Volvo brings to the table,” he said. “Volvo’s trucks have always stood up to the demands of our work, with our FL7 a case in point. That kind of longevity speaks volumes about the build quality and engineering which goes into every model. Together with the team at Dennison’s, Volvo continues to deliver on both product and aftersales support, and this new addition to our fleet is no exception.”

The new FM500 will work throughout Northern Ireland, transporting plant equipment and hauling sand. It is expected to cover around 80,000 kilometres annually, either with a low-loader Max Trailer or a Schmitz Cargobull S.KI tipping trailer. Power comes from Volvo’s D13K engine, producing up to 500hp and 2,500Nm of torque, paired with the I-Shift 12-speed automated gearbox. The transmission has been upgraded with software optimised for construction and off-road work, aiding manoeuvrability at low speeds or when pulling away from a standstill – a clear advantage on tougher sites.

Drivers benefit from Volvo’s Globetrotter cab, which features dual armrests, an adjustable steering wheel with neck tilt, extra storage, and a 28-litre fridge. Visibility has been enhanced with rain-sensing wipers, static cornering lights and the distinctive V-shaped LED headlights. The truck also comes with a Volvo Gold Contract, giving Campbell Contracts predictable running costs, full service support and maximum uptime.

Founded in the 1960s, Campbell Contracts has grown into a multi-discipline operator covering quarrying, civil engineering and project management. The addition of the Volvo FM500 tractor unit reinforces the company’s reputation for investing in reliable, durable equipment to meet the needs of its varied workload across Northern Ireland.
