Nottingham-based Colson Transport has taken delivery of a Volvo FH16 750 Globetrotter 6×4 tractor unit.
The keys to the new truck have been handed to one of the operator’s longest-serving drivers, in recognition of his service.
Colson Transport runs a fleet of around 80 commercial vehicles, the vast majority wearing the Volvo badge.
Therefore, it was a natural choice to go back to the Swedish manufacturer for the FH16.
Specifically, the new addition will be paired with a tipper trailer and be tasked with muckaway work across Nottinghamshire.
Ryan Colson, who owns the business, said he had run Volvos all his life.
“Ever since I started in the industry as a driver’s mate at the age of 15, it’s been the number one for me,” he added.
“The business now runs around 80 tippers and grab lorries, more or less exclusively Volvo.
“As far as I’m concerned, they are the best you can buy.”
The latest Colson Transport truck is powered by Volvo’s D16K engine, delivering 750hp and 3,550Nm of torque.
To further assist the truck in off-road applications, Colson Transport has specified the FH16 with a heavy-duty bumper.
It is made of 3mm high-grade steel and partly covered by a thick polypropylene coating.
As a result, it is designed to shield the front of the truck from scratches, dents and broken headlights.
In addition, an X-High chassis offers excellent ground clearance when accessing landfill sites to drop its heavy waste loads.
The truck also benefits from additional safety features.
For example, it boasts adaptive high beam headlamps and Volvo’s Downhill Cruise Control function.
Meanwhile, the driver-focused interior features an upgraded dashboard and new storage spaces.
Other options include a 12in high-resolution instrument display, leather upholstery and a 33-litre under bunk-mounted fridge/freezer.
