Battery power in the heavy-duty truck sector has arrived at Mercedes-Benz with the launch of the eActros.
The new electric truck boasts a maximum range of 400km, making it suitable for a wide range of operations.
In addition, there is a choice of three or four battery packs, each pack offering 105kWh.
The eActros’ battery power combines with an electric axle, comprising two high-power electric motors and two-speed transmission.
Both liquid-cooled motors generate continuous output of 330kW and total power of 400kW.
The 400km figure is in ‘optimal conditions’, but the new truck is undoubtably impressive.
Inside the cab, there is a noise reduction of 10dB, while outside the truck operates near silently.
Therefore, says the OEM, more deliveries at night will be possible using battery power.
Technologies seen on the standard truck have been carried over onto the electric version.
For example, eActros features MirrorCam, Sideguard Assist and Active Brake Assist 5.
For operators, there are a dedicated set of eActros online services and ‘e-consultants’ to assist drivers with any issues.
Karin Rådström, head of Mercedes-Benz Trucks stated the importance of the launch of the eActros.
“We have to acknowledge that transport is a part of the problem when it comes to climate change.
“At the same time, we can and we will be part of the solution,” she promised.
“We developed this truck together with our customers, and we tested it together.”
Furthermore, she stated that the truck and its dedicated services are a big step for the OEM and customers in achieving CO2-neutral transport.
Meanwhile, with the official launch of the eActros out of the way, the attention now shifts to electrifying other models in the range.
During then launch of the truck, Mercedes-Benz confirmed that the eEconic will also be introduced this year.
