Applications have opened for an apprenticeship scheme run by Sparshatt Truck & Van Ltd, the Kent-based Mercedes-Benz dealer.
The programme is part of the Sparshatt Training Academy, which is designed to teach the next generation of technicians.
Furthermore, it is just one of a number of investments being made by Sparshatt in the region.
For example, the dealer has pledged £330,000 to a bodyshop.
It has also made a £2 million investment at its Dartford site.
Specifically, the Sparshatt apprenticeship scheme provides a Level 3 qualification in Heavy Vehicle Service and Maintenance from the IMI.
After the third year, successful apprentices are trained to use their skills in the workplace during an ‘Improver Year’.
While training, apprentices will work alongside a Mercedes-Benz technician to learn to use the latest automotive technology.
In addition, successful candidates will also benefit from interest-free loans to help fund tools and toolboxes.
Additional benefits include a health cashback plan, access to the cycle to work scheme and 24 days annual leave.
Meanwhile, they will also get access to the new in-house gym that has been recently installed at the Dartford depot.
Former apprentice Harry Deverill – now a trainee group technical specialist – praised the scheme.
“I absolutely loved my time in the Sparshatt Training Academy,” he recalled.
“It helped kickstart my career and gave me everything I need to work in the sector.”
While apprentices learn, they will be given a weekly wage of £175 for a total of 40 hours a week.
For January 2023, there are two opportunities available in Dartford, two in Sittingbourne and one each in Ashford and Tonbridge.
Applications are open to anyone over 17-years-old with a grade C (or new grade 4) or above in GCSE English and Maths or an equivalent qualification.
