Modplan has invested in seven Mercedes-Benz Ategos for its fleet.
As a result, the supplier of windows, doors and conservatories has expanded its vehicle portfolio by four.
The company chose the Ategos due to their build quality – described as “Bombproof” by the operator.
In addition, Modplan was impressed with the build quality and customer-focused aftersales back-up.
Euro Commercials supplied the seven more trucks from the Atego light- and medium-duty distribution range.
Three have replaced vehicles from the previous Atego model generation that that have run for 10 years.
Therefore, the remaining four represent an extension to the company’s fleet.
Gareth Gough, the Modplan logistics manager, explained the company needed more trucks to meet demand.
“With the price of fuel continuing to rise to eye-watering levels, it also made sound business sense to invest in newer equipment.
“[The new Ategos are] more economical to run and better for the environment.”
With the exception of a single 18-tonner, all the new Modplan trucks have 7.5-tonne gross weights.
“We purchased our first batch of seven Mercedes-Benz trucks from Euro Commercials in 2012,” continued Gough.
“They were much better than the vehicles we were using previously so we’ve stuck with them.
“Indeed, the Atego has proved to be pretty well bombproof, so much so that we still have three of those original trucks.”
In fact, each of them has covered more than 500,000 miles, according to Gough.
The new trucks feature six-speed Mercedes PowerShift 3 automated manual transmissions.
Specifically, the switch was made to help reduce fuel consumption.
In another ‘first’, the operator has signed-up to five-year Mercedes-Benz Complete Service Contracts.
“Euro Commercials has always looked after our Mercedes-Benz trucks at its Newport branch,” said Gough.
“However, we’d not gone for a repair and maintenance agreement previously.”
