MAN Truck & Bus, in partnership with various industry leaders, is accelerating the development of charging infrastructure for electric commercial vehicles across Europe. At the heart of this effort is a collaboration with energy company E.ON and its subsidiary, E.ON Drive Infrastructure, to establish around 170 charging locations, providing approximately 400 charging points for public use. The initiative will see 125 places in Germany alone, forming the country’s largest public charging network for heavy commercial vehicles. Other sites will be developed in Austria, the UK, Denmark, Italy, Poland, the Czech Republic, and Hungary.

The rapid pace of progress is evident, with the first two charging points already operational at MAN’s service branch in Berlin-Wildau. Further locations, including Karlsfeld near Munich and Fürstenwalde, are set to launch soon, with charging capacities of up to 400 kW per station. These sites are specifically designed for electric commercial vehicles and feature drive-through facilities to streamline the process. MAN and E.ON aim to have 80 public charging locations active by the end of 2025.

A standout project in this initiative is constructing a lorry loading park at Munich’s Allianz Arena in collaboration with FC Bayern Munich. Utilising the stadium’s substantial electricity grid, typically underused outside match days, this park will offer high-performance and megawatt charging points. By the project’s completion, it will feature 30 charging stations capable of charging up to 500 electric buses and trucks daily. This creative use of existing infrastructure marks a significant step toward facilitating the widespread adoption of electric commercial vehicles.

Another key player in MAN’s strategy is Milence, a joint venture with Daimler Truck and Volvo Group. The venture has opened its first charging parks and plans to establish 1,700 high-capacity charging stations across Europe by 2027. This extensive network will support the transition to electric trucks, addressing the current shortfall in available charging infrastructure.

While public charging networks are essential, MAN also provides private charging solutions for businesses with regular routes or central depots. Through its subsidiary MAN Transport Solutions, the company advises customers on setting up charging infrastructure tailored to their specific needs. Collaborating with partners like Heliox, SBRS, and ABB, MAN ensures that its clients can seamlessly transition to electric fleets by offering comprehensive energy supply strategies.
